The Nkawkaw Police Divisional Command has arrested seventeen (17) suspected of possessing marijuana at Abisu Number 1, a village in the Abetifi (Kwahu) constituency in the Eastern Region.
The Police Command undertook the emergency swoop on the residents of the constituency last Friday. It resulted in 204 bags of marijuana, with an estimated street value of GHc 40,000, being impounded.
Peacefmonline.com is reliably informed that an attempt was made to bribe the Police with an amount of GHc 10,000, but the officers declined the offer.
The Nkawkaw Police Divisional Commander James Sarfo Peprah in an interview with host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo noted that the Police Service decided to undertake checks at the vicinity ahead of the Kwahu Easter celebrations.
According to him, the Police intelligence indicates that revelers that troop into Kwahu for the Easter bash engage in illegal activities.
Due to this, the Police swooped down on the residents and seized 204 bags of marijuana from each household in the community.
He revealed that a 79-year old woman was also apprehended in possession of the narcotic drug.
“There are 21 houses in the town. We searched every house and seized 204 bags of wee, which are not small bags at all. We picked up 17 suspects for screening. After screening, we were left with 11 who admitted that they possessed the wee. They have mentioned eight other names that we will possibly apprehend.”
The Divisional Police Commander added that the Police division have begun investigations.
