Kintampo disaster: Prez. Mahama announces Gh¢100,000 support

Mahama-Visits-Kintampo-Disaster-Victims-620x400President John Mahama is in the Brong Ahafo regional capital of Sunyani, visiting survivors of the deadly bus accident last Wednesday in which 63 passengers perished.

The president who was accompanied by National Democratic Congress (NDC) General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia and the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, donated assorted items to accident victims who had been referred from the Kintampo Government Hospital.

Other patients on admission at the hospital benefitted from the donation. The items included cartons of Milo and milk.

Government has also announced it is supporting the victims and survivors with ¢100,000.

At least 23 passengers were reported injured and have been on an admission in various hospitals mainly at the Techiman Government Hospital as well as the Komfo Anokye Hospital.

Others were admitted to the Sunyani Government Hospital and the Holy Family Hospital in Sunyani. Among the injured six are reported to be in critical condition and have been brought to Accra for further treatment.

The president’s visit comes after a delegation led by the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Mr. Eric Opoku, was sent from the Flagstaff house to have firsthand information about the disaster.

John Mahama arrived in an Airforce helicopter in Sunday afternoon to the teeming following of residents in the community.

Residents in Kintampo are expecting the President to visit the accident scene and more importantly, the Kintampo Government Hospital. The Hospital’s Medical Superintendent has complained about some logistical constraints.
