Sandra Ekperuoh Nigeria’s first woman auto mechanic is indeed a woman to be celebrated for even venturing into the world thought to be only for men. Sandra has been a mechanic for the past 27 years, according to her she runs an NGO aimed at empowering women called the LADY MECHANIC INITIATIVE with a graduated over 150 women in Lagos State. Some of the girls who have passed through her are now self employed, masters of their own mechanic shops. Sandra trains these girls for free, accommodates and pays them salary. She houses these girls for free.
Sandra is indeed the woman every nation need to push forward with, she is the kind of woman Africa should be proud to have. But as we all know this world is indeed unfair because 40 policemen and officials from the WASTE WATER MANAGEMENT and SEWAGE BOARD recently closed down the mechanic shop Sandra through her own little might is changing the face of Nigeria on. According to the land belongs to the Lagos States Government, yet Sandra has been on the land for the past 10 years bringing hope to hopeless girls who might have ended up in various social vices we find in this modern world.
Although we shouldn’t forget if Sandra doesn’t own the land she is guilty in this instance I strongly believe with the kind of service she is rendering to Nigeria and mother Africa as a whole she should be dealt with more leniently. Two wrongs indeed can’t make a right.
But thanks be to God after Sandra’s case hit the media the gates of the workshop was re-opened upon directive of the Lagos state Governor. Governor Fashola directed the gates be reopened because those who came to seal them up acted on their own directives without the Governors Knowledge.
