Channel O Africa VJ and rapper J. Town launches his debut album Bright Lights & Dark Shades on the 26th of April, 2013 at the Golden Tulip Hotel, Accra. The album features Choc City’s Ice Prince, Ghana Music Award Nominee; Raquel, Sarkodie, Christopher Steenkamp and Ben Ameh just to name a few. Bright Lights & Dark Shades presents hit songs “Bad Gyal” and “Oomale” with the latter featuring Samini; both of which have received major airplay.
Stefen Menson professionally known as J. Town has been musically motivated since he was a child. His passion and talent developed over the years but he really started getting serious about music in 2002. By 2006, J Town and his group Skillions started getting noticed for their undeniable talents and even though he got signed as a solo artiste by “Killa One West” he is still very much a part of Skillions. From then up to this moment, J Town has made a mark in the music industry as a rapper, singer and producer; excelling tremendously in each category.
So far he has collaborated with music heavyweights such as Sway, Tuface, Black Prophet, Jayso, Sarkodie, Mode 9 and many more. His first mix tape titled J Mixes featured hit songs he customized to fit his own style. He catapulted to success after a few moths and owns the title “Most Downloaded Artist In Ghana” with over 140,000 downloads in the shortest time. The versatile sound of his second mix tape No Mask created even more commotion than its predecessor and accumulated amazing responses from its first and second releases “Guns & Roses” and “Holly Hood”.
The No Mask mix tape featured a variety of different artists including Chase, Killmatic, Bobo Shanti, Jayso, Padlock, The Canz, Ali, Rumour, Kevin Beatz and Lil Shaker. The tracks were mostly produced by J Town but also included production from Richard Asah, Klu Monsta and Dery.
Bright Lights & Dark Shades is not a great album only because it belongs to a talented musician such as J. Town, but because it features other artistes and performers from different genres of music. This gives the album a very versatile sound and makes it appealing to listeners regardless of the music genre they are drawn to. The album is also receiving a lot of local as well as international attention by way of airplay on Ghanaian radio stations and on international media such as Channel O Africa.
