Dumsor disrupts Prez. Mahama’s meeting with fisherfolk in Takoradi

Presidnet-Mahama-PortPresident John Dramani Mahama’s meeting with fisherfolk in the Western Region on Tuesday, was disrupted for a few minutes after the auditorium the event was being held experienced a power outage.

The event, which forms part of the President’s ‘Accounting to the people’ tour, was taking place at the GNAT Hall at Fijai in Takoradi. President Mahama in his recent state of the nation address told Ghanaians he had overcome the power crisis as he promised. The claim has been contested by some energy analysts who say a lot more needs to be done to sustain regular and uninterrupted power supply.

The event was halted around 5:45pm, when the lights went off as the President was addressing the fisherfolk. The power outage delayed the programme for some few minutes after which the lights were restored. “The President had to quietly go back to his seat while they worked at restoring the lights,”

The fishermen said although over thousands of equipment had been made available to them, they in the Western Region are without it because they cannot afford it. President Mahama was accompanied by the Minister for Fisheries, Sherry Ayitey, the Minister of Communications, Dr. Omane Boamah, Deputy Minister of Roads and Highways, Isaac Adjei Mensah, as well as other government functionaries. President Mahama had earlier commissioned a number of projects in the region and performed a ceremony to convert the Takoradi Polytechnic into a technical university.
