PHOTOS: Prez. Mahama inaugurates Takoradi Technical University

President John Dramani Mahama has officially inaugurated the newly converted Takoradi Technical University. The Polytechnic has become a technical university under the NDC’s policy of converting polytechnics into universities.

President John Dramani Mahama speaking at an inauguration ceremony this morning said by next academic year, six other Polytechnics will become full-fledged Technical Universities.

“Today marks a change and a period of progressive evolution for Polytechnics in this country,” he said.

President Mahama assured that he will continue to prioritise technical and vocational education. Enrollment into the Technical Universities will take off from the 2016/2017 academic year. Kumasi and Takoradi Polytechnics have benefitted from an upgraded engineering labs and workshops, with the President´s assurance that Sunyani and Wa polytecnics will follow soon.

A Technical Committee was set up to advice government on the conversion. The committee however advised government the exercise must be done progressively to satisfy the requirements of becoming a Technical University.
