‘Sakawa’ boys storm Akropong School for the blind – Headmistress cries for help

Ghana-News781-653x400Some young men noted for engaging in cyber fraud known in Ghana as “sakawa”, have allegedly invaded the Akropong School for the Blind in the Eastern region.

The sakawa boys according to reports, have taken advantage of the visual impairment of the students to lure them with gifts for their rituals.

Headmistress of the School Mrs. Marhella Narh revealed this when the Eastern Regional Chapter of Optimist Club of Ghana donated some food items to the school.

She claimed that, the sakawa boys give among other freebies, toffees wrapped in red calico to the innocent students as part of the rituals.

Ms. Narh blamed the situation on the lack of proper security check points in the school. She added that residents have also turned the school into a thoroughfare – a situation she stressed poses danger to the students.

The Headmistress called on government to intervene before any of the vulnerable students become a victim.

For his part, Chairman of the Eastern Regional Chapter of Optimist Ghana Mr. Oteng Forster expressed shock at the exposé.

He vowed the group will liaise with the key stakeholders to find a lasting solution to the problem.

Mr. Oteng Forster also called on all well-meaning Ghanaians to support the School for the Blind.
