PHOTOS: Errors on new EC website: late Jake, Adjei still Chairmen

ec-site-620x400The Electoral Commission of Ghana has launched a new website, but it is plagued with outdated information, especially data on political parties in the country.

Under the ‘Political Entities’ navigation bar/menu of the new website where a sub-menu titled ‘Political Parties’ could be found, the Electoral Management Body has listed all the registered political parties with their leadership.

The late Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, who ceased being the leader and chairman of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) since 12 April 2014 is still cited as the chairman of the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition.

Suspended national chairman Paul Afoko took over from Obetsebi-Lamptey two years ago, but the position is currently being held by Freddie Blay in an acting capacity.

Also, the website has Kwadwo Owusu-Afriyie popularly known as ‘Sir John’ as the party’s general secretary instead of Kwabena Agyepong, who has since been suspended, with John Boadu – the national organiser of the party – now doubling as the acting chief scribe of the party.

Under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) section of the page, Dr Kwabena Adjei, who lost to Kofi Portuphy in the national chairmanship race in December 2014, remains the leader of the ruling party per the EC’s website.

The blunder also hit the Convention People’s Party whose leader is now Prof. Edmund Delle, but the website is still keeping Samia Nkrumah as the national chairman while citing Ivor Greenstreet, the flagbearer of the Nkrumahist party as the chairman and general secretary of the party.

Similar blip was committed at the People’s National Convention segment as well with the current national chairman Bernard Monarh being displayed as the general secretary of the party.

When contacted, officials of the EC said they will get back to Starrfmonline.com soon.
