051441c62195a97d15614249ab87fa3e_LFive minors alleged to have defiled a 13-year-old epileptic girl at Amasaman in the Ga West District of the Greater Accra Region are to undergo assessment to ascertain their real ages.

The boys were said to have sexually assaulted the epileptic girl at a time her mother was out of the house.

A doctor’s report issued after the victim had been taken to the Amasaman Hospital confirmed that her hymen had been broken.

The mother of the victim, name withheld, who is demanding justice, lodged a complaint with the Amasaman District Police.

Narrating the incident, she said she returned home from work to meet her daughter sick.

According to her, she was told by some neighbours that her daughter had been defiled by some boys, and after examining her and administering first aid to her, she reported the incident to the Amasaman Police.

“I want the issue to be thoroughly probed in order to establish the circumstances surrounding the defilement of my daughter,” she said.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the Accra Regional Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mrs Effia Tenge, said the Accra Regional Command had taken over the case from the Amasaman District Police.

She said the mother of the victim had also been directed to take the girl to the Police Hospital in Accra for proper assessment.

Mrs Effia Tenge said the five suspects, whose ages indicated that they were minors, would be invited and taken to the Police Hospital for age assessment before the police take a decision on the matter.

She explained that children under 12 years could not be criminally liable according to the laws of Ghana.
