The Vice Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr. Mahumudu Bawumia has constructed an Islamic learning centre (Makaranta) valued at GH¢12,000 for the Zongo community in Boi Town in the Ga West Municipality of the Greater Accra region.
The construction of the centre, which replaced a dilapidated mosque, started about five months ago.
It has been furnished with dual desks, white chalk board and ceiling fans.
Hajia Samira Bawumia, wife of the vice presidential candidate, who commissioned the project on behalf of her husband, expressed their commitment to support the community.
Hajia Samira urged the students to take the Islamic studies very seriously.
She also urged the students and their parents alike to take formal education very seriously, saying that education is the key that opens the door to prosperity.
Hajia Samira, who encouraged the students to spend quality time to study, also appealed to parents not to use all their funds to purchase jewelry and fabrics but focus on the educational needs of their children.
The wife of the presidential running mate used the occasion to appeal to the people to register to vote in the November general elections, stressing that they should vote massively for Nana Akufo-Addo and her husband.
Hajia Samira explained that Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP parliamentary candidate would massively transform the country’s collapsed economy.
She added that the revival of the country’s economy will definitely ensure better living standards for the people.
Chairman for the event, Alhaji Adogo lauded the couple for meeting their needs in a short period of time, adding that it is an indication of their keen interest to ensure that their children benefit from sound Islamic teachings.
Arafat Malik and other students, who spoke to DAILY GUIDE, also commended the couple, saying that Alhaji Dr. Bawumia is their role model.
