Doctors end strike but ….

images (3)Striking doctors across the country will resume work today after a month long strike over unpaid allowances and market premiums.

The doctors at a news conference Tuesday said they called off the strike after a meeting with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), mediated by the National Labour Commission (NLC).

President of the Ghana Medical Associatio (GMA), Dr. Kwabena Opoku Adusei also cautioned the labor commission to respect the one month deadline agreed for their grievances to be resolved.

While directing all doctors to restore their services beginning Wednesday May 8, 2013, Dr. Opoku Adusei stressed that government must “abide by the directives of the National Labour Commission.”

“We entreat the National Labour Commission to bear in mind and respect the one month deadline given to the Ghana Medical Association and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission to abide by [the NLC’s] directive,” he pointed out.

In the interest of justice and fairness, the GMA president insisted, the NLC must be ready “to enforce its directives at all times irrespective of the parties involved”.
