Tanzanian President John Magufuli has fired the Minister of Internal Affairs of State, Charles Grind, accused of attending parliament while under the influence of alcohol.
This is contained in a statement signed by Gerson Msigwa, Acting Director of Communications of the President’s Office.
According to the statement, Grind showed up in parliament and responded to questions while drunk.
Magufuli, who is regarded as “the Bulldozer” since assuming office in October 2015, notably scrapped a number of ministerial foreign visits he deemed unnecessary and also cracked down on government entertainment budgets.
He also slashed Cabinet positions, merged some ministries and fired tainted officials, including the nation’s anti-corruption chief. |
