2 arrested over leaked BECE questions

Two persons are the in grips of the Police for using rogue websites to leak exam questions during the 2015 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). This was confirmed by the Director General of the Ghana Education Service, Jacob Kor.

According to him, the suspects used their websites to attract about 27,000 subscribers who patronized leaked exams questions on the site. Last year, widespread leakages on social media led to the cancellation of five BECE papers. Addressing a press conference in Accra, on Wednesday, the Director General of GES, Jacob Kor indicated that the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) is still tracking other rogue websites.

“The council decided to clamp down on these rogue websites and those people who operate such websites are in the hands of the Ghana Police service.” He said “the most notorious ones are Mr. Luke Ditodito and another one called coffee linking who are together operating with 27,000 subscribers” adding that they “have been arrested by the Police in connection with last year’s BECE examination.”

Mr. Kor further assured that “the BNI is still investigating to discover all the sources that are operating the rogue websites and very soon they will all be caught by the law and action will be taken on them.”

“Those who already caused the trouble last year are already in the hands of the Police,” he added. Supervisors banned from using phones The GES boss also re-echoed some guidelines for the exams and announced that invigilators and supervisors are also banned from going to the examination centres with telecommunication gadgets.

“Supervisors are reminded that when question papers are brought they must certify that the question papers pockets are intact on reaching the school. Supervisor and invigilators are reminded not to carry mobile phones or any electronic device.” The 2016 BECE will see a total number of 461,012 candidates comprising 239,063 males and 221,050 females sit for the exam at 1,598 centers across the country.

The exams has been slated for June 13-17, 2016.
