Flagbearer of the All People’s Congress (APC) political party, Hassan Ayariga has explained why minors were seen at his party’s recently held national delegates congress.
APC held its delegates congress on Monday, 13th June, 2016 and according to media reports, majority of the delegates present at the Accra International Conference Centre were minors.
Speaking in an interview on Peace FM morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, Hassan Ayariga said “yesterday was a working day and I for instance went there with my five kids . . . because they are on mid-terms and for them to enjoy the beauty of APC; democracy and how it works; I took them along with me. Many people also brought their kids . . . in all political parties’ congresses all these children come along.”
He further indicated that “we had given delegates cards to all regional executives and regional chairmen to give to their members and so assuming I am a delegate and I want my kids to come in; what do you think I will do . . . common sense will tell you that I will call somebody and give him the card and say go out there and give it to my kids to come in; that is common sense, but it doesn’t mean the cards were given to the kids . . .people will always do propaganda . . . nobody in his right senses will ask a child of 12 or 10 years to go and vote . . . we in the APC don’t believe in that . . . I am glad people even brought their children there; they will be APC future leaders.”
The congress endorsed Mr Hassan Ayariga the founder and leader of the APC as the flagbearer of the party for the 2016 presidential elections. Other national executives were also elected at the congress.
Although the party said it was expecting over 3,000 delegates from across the country, the number of delegates present at the AICC grounds were not up to that number.
Mr Ayariga led the People’s National Convention (PNC) as its presidential candidate for the 2012 elections but broke away to form the APC after he failed to secure the nod of the PNC as its flagbearer for the 2016 general elections.
