Some angry youth of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Wa West Constituency in the Upper West Region have set part of the party’s office in the constituency on fire.
The angry party members also burnt down a vehicle belonging to the constituency chairman.
The youth were protesting the failure of President John Mahama to nominate their favourite person for the position of DCE in the area.
Mr Basiera Sankara was nominated by the President as the DCE for the Wa West District Assembly in a statement released and signed by the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Alhaji Collins Dauda.
But the nomination, the angry youth said, was not the best for the party in the constituency; in protest, they set the party’s office ablaze and torched the chairman’s car.
Upper West Regional Police Commander, ACP Dr Shaibu Gariba confirmed to Adom News on Saturday that part of the office was burnt down.
He also confirmed that one of the vehicles of the party was also set on fire.
According to ACP Gariba, the police have been able to contain the situation and are patrolling the constituency.
He said no one has been arrested and investigations are in progress.
