Veep escapes accident on Winneba-Cape Coast highway (PHOTO)

veepaccidentVice-President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur narrowly escaped an accident last Saturday when a saloon car that failed to heed a signal to stop crashed into one of the four-wheel V8 vehicles in his convoy, causing the latter to summersault and eventually land upside-down in a bush near the Esarkyir junction on the Winneba-Cape Coast highway. The driver of the  V8 vehicle, in his attempt to avoid a head-on collision with the saloon car, veered off the road and burst one of its tyres in the process.

The accident left four persons, including two journalists, one from the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, Mr Nutor Bibini Nutor and a Radio Gold reporter, Mr Bernard Allotey, a security man and a chef of the Vice-President with minor injuries.

The victims have since been treated and discharged from the 37 Military Hospital in Accra.

Assignment

The Vice-President was on his way to Abeadze Dominase in the Mfantsiman District to join a durbar of the chiefs and people to celebrate the Ahobaa Kesse festival and also mark the 20th anniversary of the installation of the paramount chief of  the area, Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi VII. The Vice-President expressed concern about the spate of reckless driving on the roads leading to loss of innocent lives. He therefore cautioned drivers to be careful and be responsible on our roads.
