ROBBERS-GRABBED-NEW

Three suspected armed robbers are in the grips of the Accra Regional Police Command for their involvement in a series of armed robbery cases in the Teshie Nungua enclave.

The suspects are Stephen Bediako, 30 years, unemployed; Kwaku Nuworkpeh, 35, a farmer; and Abass Fuseini, 23, also unemployed.

Speaking about the arrest, the Accra Regional Police Commander, ACP Timothy Yosa Bonga, stated that the three suspects met on August 24 around Teshie and conspired to embark on a robbery operation.

According to him, based on their agreement, the three, armed with two locally manufactured pistols and a pump action gun, met at Fertilizer, an area around Teshie, where they laid ambush around a forex bureau.

A victim arrived at the forex bureau and the three robbers quickly attacked him and subjected him to severe beatings and threats.

They also forcibly took his mobile phone, two laptops and all the money he carried on him.

ACP Bonga detailed that the complainant raised an alarm when the robbers tried to escape, which attracted people to the scene, who pursued them.

The armed robbers fired shots to disperse the crowd and fled in different directions. A distress call was placed to the police.

A search was mounted for the robbers, which led to their arrest around Mana Mission Hospital. Police retrieved two locally manufactured pistols, one pump action gun, one short gun, 13 rounds of Lion cartridges with one spent cartridge, and a sack containing a sum of GH?4,388.

Police investigation revealed that on July 30, the trio robbed a shop near Nungua Secondary School, where they made away with GH?11,000 and two mobile phones.

Further investigations again disclosed that on August 13 the suspects robbed a lodge along the Beach Road at about 11:30am. They made away with one laptop, five mobile phones and an unspecified amount of money.

Investigations are ongoing and the suspects are being processed for court.
