PHOTO: Man arrested for car snatching

CAR-SANTCHING-SYNDICATEA 40-year-old taxi driver is in the grips of the Accra Regional Police Command for car snatching.

The suspect, Daniel Quaye, was arrested when he tried to rather frame the victim as an armed robber when his plans went south.

According to the police, on August 21 at about midday, the suspect hired the services of a cab driver from Tema Community 10 junction to Korle Bu for a fee of GHC50.

The police detailed that on their way to the said destination, the suspect asked the driver to stop at Tema Station for him to use a restroom.

The suspect spent over an hour in the washroom and when he came back, he asked the driver to continue to Korle Bu, to which the driver obliged.

At Korle Bu, the suspect directed the driver to go to the Nursing School area, but the driver notified him that that section of the road was blocked.

The suspect then asked the driver to use another route, which the driver refused to use since it was also blocked.

Suddenly, the suspect pulled out an enamel from a polythene bag and attempted to spray a liquid substance suspected to be acid directly into the face of the victim.

The victim rushed out of the taxi and was pursued by the suspect.

Police detailed that the suspect was screaming that the victim was a thief who was trying to rob him.

This attracted people to them, who arrested both driver and suspect and handed them to the police.

At the police station, Daniel presented to the police that he was the victim in the case but later confessed that he was attempting to snatch the car from the driver.

He told the police that he had in his polythene bag a rope, a knife, a piece of wood, an enamel and two other bottles containing acid, which he was going to use as weapons.

Daniel is being processed for court.
