University of Ghana admits 25,295

Matriculation-2016-StudentsA total of twenty five thousand two hundred and ninety five hundred students have been admitted by the University of Ghana this year, the Vice Chancellor of the premier tertiary institution Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu disclosed yesterday.

He disclosed this when he delivered a speech during this year’s matriculation ceremony on the university campus adding that the school received 40,435 applications for the 2016/17 academic year.

The Vice Chancellor said that of the 10,551 offered admission, 7,611 were undergraduate students and 2,940 were graduate students.

“The 7,611 registered undergraduate students are made up of 3,841 males and 3,770 females while of the 2,940 registered graduate students, 1,702 are males and 1,238 are females,” he revealed.

Prof. Oduro Owusu said that the university has also offered admissions to 990 international students for undergraduate and graduate programmes.

The Vice Chancellor who assumed office barely two months ago mentioned that the university has introduced a number of new undergraduate and graduate programmes among them the re-introduction of the Bachelors of Arts in Administration in the College of Humanities, Bachelor of Arts in Education (Teaching and Non Teaching) and Bachelor of Science in Education (Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics)

At the post graduate level, Sandwich programmes introduced include MA Organizational leadership and Management, MA Educational Leadership and Management, MSc. Accounting and Finance and Financial Risk Management.

Prof. Oduro Owusu urged the students to be law abiding so that the purpose for which they applied for the university’s training will be achieved.

“Education comes with responsibility. To those of you who have been admitted to study at the University of Ghana, you have an obligation to use your education for the benefit of others. I challenge each of you to be an active citizen of this community that you will inhabit in the future” he stated.

Mr. Cederick Etornam Kyekye, of the School of Medicine and Dentistry urged his colleagues to make the most out of their parents’ investments by taking their academic work seriously.
