Flagbearer of the All People’s Congress (APC) Hassan Ayariga has thrown his support for the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, in the December 7 elections.
Mr Ayariga, who was one of the 10 presidential aspirants disqualified from contesting the 2016 elections, made the announcement at a news conference in Accra.
He said President Mahama and the NDC will win the upcoming elections by at least 54 per cent. The 2012 presidential candidate for the People’s National Convention (PNC) justified his decision, citing the fact that the president is a man who listens despite the suffering Ghanaians are going through.
Mr Ayariga’s official announcement, advertised weeks earlier, was nearly preempted by an announcement by his party’s General Secretary, Razak Opoku, and Vice Chairman Emmanuel Carl Bartels, who declared support for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its flagbearer Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The two have since been suspended from the party.
Mr Ayariga urged all supporters of APC to campaign for President Mahama and asked the regional executives to also intensify their campaigns in that bid.
There were a number of APC supporters wielding brooms in support of their leader’s choice.
