‘Have we not solved the Dumsor crisis?’ – Seth Terkper asks

Finance Minister, Seth Terkper says the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has no message for Ghanaians ahead of Wednesday’s polls.

He said the power crisis which was the major area of criticism for the NPP has been resolved by government of President John Mahama.

“Have we not solved the Dumsor crisis?” he asked, adding, this is the first election year that the energy crisis has not been used against the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.

The Finance Minister made these remarks when he addressed thousands of NDC supporters at the Greater Accra Regional rally held at the Accra Sports Stadium, Monday.

Ghana has rebounded from the power crisis which many people had described as the journey of no return because of the intensity.

Power was rationed. It was shared between residence and manufacturing companies.

The crisis was blamed on faulty equipment, low water level of the Akosombo Dam – the largest power generator in the country, and mismanagement of the Electricity Company of Ghana.

The consequences of the crisis triggered series of blame game. The governing NDC blamed the NPP for doing nothing to improve the energy infrastructure when it had the opportunity to govern the country.

The NPP made capital out of it blaming the NDC of being incompetent at handling the crisis.

However, after years of what Ghanaians christened as “Dumsor” literally standing for the on and off nature of electricity, the crisis has been put under control.

Government has made provision of some thermal plants which produce power to augment the traditional ones. The Asogli Power plant, Karpower and solar panels among others are producing electricity to feed residence and factories.
