GHANA has been given the green light by the Confederation of African Football to host the next edition of the Africa Women’s Championship in 2018.
The official confirmation was announced at the Football Association Ordinary Congress which was held at the Ghanaman Soccer of Excellence at Pampram on Monday.
This is going to be the first time Ghana will be handed the mandate to host the championship which has eluded the nation since its inception in the 1990’s.
The hosting rights also looks like compensation to Ghana by CAF for the country’s inability to win the right to host the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations to be staged in Gabon.
The Black Queens of Ghana will now get a shot at winning the title for the first time as they will be the host team when the tournament starts in 2018.
The title has eluded Ghana since the inception of the tournament in 1990. Nigeria won their 10th AFCON title in the just-ended tournament in Cameroon.
