Food prices reduce in Accra markets

FoodstuffsPrices of foodstuffs in the various markets in Accra have dwindled, traders have told Citi Business News.

This is contrary to assertions that prices of foodstuffs have increased across markets in the national capital. Checks by Citi Business News across the various markets reveal that most foodstuffs are still selling at the old prices while some have rather seen a reduction in price.

For instance a bunch of plantain which was selling at GHc50.00 is now selling at GHc20gh. 5 pieces of garden eggs is still selling at GH¢1 with a medium sized tuber of yam also selling between 6 and 7 cedis. Some traders who spoke to Citi Business News said though the prices remain unchanged, business is slow. “A bunch of plantain used to go for between GHc50 and GHc60 but now it has reduced to GHc20. Another opined, “onions too is going for GHc2 and GHc5 whiles garden eggs is selling at GHc1for 5pieces. Meanwhile prices of some provision goods have increased.

Some provision sellers who spoke to Citi Business News say the increase is only related with Nestle products and does not cut across all provision products. “Nestle Ghana Limited has increased their products by about GHc10. For instance ideal milk was selling at GHc520 now it goes for GHc620 for the pack. So the margin is huge.” they said.
