Central Region: Hunter kills wife, commits suicide

alleged-weaponA 35-year-old hunter in the Central Region, Prosper Quarshie, has reportedly shot himself dead after allegedly killing his wife, Faustina Mayera, 29 years old, with the same weapon.

The incident was said to have taken place at Gomoa Nyame Bekyere near Dominase in the Gomoa East District of the region.

The area Unit Committee Chairman, Kojo Otsiba, who disclosed this to DAILY GUIDE, said the body of Prosper Quarshie was found at the back of his house together with a locally manufactured gun and two used bullets.

According to him, the man had retired to bed Sunday after lunch, together with the woman’s two children from a previous relationship.

But at about 5:30 am on Monday, one of the children was heard screaming in the room that his step-father had pointed a gun at his mother. He reportedly pulled the trigger seconds later.

Mr Kojo Otsiba said after shooting his wife, Quarshie reportedly pointed the gun at his chest and pulled the trigger, killing himself.

The reason behind the gruesome act was not yet known, as Mr Otsiba said the relationship between the couple seemed cordial and therefore could not fathom what might have triggered the man to commit such an act.

Another source narrated that the tenants in the house heard a gunshot and then a second one from the room of the deceased and when they went to enquire about what was amiss, they saw the woman lying in a pool of blood unconscious. She was rushed to the Trauma and Specialist Hospital at Winneba, where she died.

The lady was said to have returned from the Volta Region after encountering some challenges in the relationship, and according to sources, the woman might have taken the challenges to far, thereby incurring the wrath of her husband.

Meanwhile, the body of the man has been deposited at the Winneba hospital by the police.

The police have since commenced investigations into the incident.

The couple left behind two children.
