Rubbish Collector rapes 23-year-old paralysed woman

MAN-HADNCUFFSA rubbish collector who allegedly could not control his sexual appetite and raped a 23-year-old paralysed woman has been arraigned before an Accra court. Julius Abbey was charged with rape before Judge Isaac Addo. His plea was not taken and he was remanded in custody.

The case of the prosecution was that Abbey, based at the Achimota market, a suburb of Accra, has been collecting rubbish from the victim’s house for some time now.

Chief Inspector (C/I) Gregory Yeboah told the court that on Saturday, February 4, 2017, the mother of the victim, went out early in the morning, leaving her son and the victim in the room.

The prosecutor said in her absence, Abbey, aware of the condition of the victim, entered the house with the aim of collecting rubbish.

On realising that the mother was absent, he sent the little boy on an errand, leaving him alone with the victim in the room.

According to prosecution, Abbey took advantage of the victim’s condition, had sexual intercourse with her and bolted after satisfying his lust.

C/I Yeboah said that the victim informed her mother of the ordeal she had gone through at the hands of Abbey and the mother proceeded to the police station where she made an official report.

He said a police medical form was issued to the mother to take her daughter to the hospital for examination and treatment.

According to the prosecutor, Abbey was subsequently arrested.
