DISTURBING PHOTO: Illegal miner killed at Odumase

Ramzy-620x406A supposed illegal miner was allegedly butchered to death at Odumase, near Konongo in the Ashanti Region, at about 1:30 pm yesterday.

The incident occurred when a bloody fight reportedly broke out between two mining groups in the hitherto peaceful community.

The deceased was only identified as Ramzy, believed to be in his mid-thirties, who belonged to one of the fearsome mining groups.

The two groups were said to be fighting over a mining concession close to the Oweri Mines gate, when Ramzy was reportedly stabbed in the chest, leading to his death.

Members of the two groups were said to have taken to their heels to prevent a possible arrest by the security agencies after Ramzy’s demise.

The incident was said to have happened right in the presence of scores of pupils who had closed from school.

Eyewitnesses said what triggered the free-for-all brawl was not immediately known.

It was however, rumoured that perhaps, they engaged in the bloody fight for supremacy over a mining concession.

The fight was so scary that people in the area, including the school children, had to run at top speed to save their lives.

Sources said it was not the first time that the two mining groups had engaged in an open brawl in the community.
