GH¢50k donation not from Chinese Association in Ghana

police3The Ghana Police Service has denied receiving GH¢50,000 from the Chinese Association in Ghana for the construction of the office complex for the Police Intelligence and Professional Standard (PIPS).

According to the Service, the donation was personal, from Tang Hong, the Chief Executive Officer of CAITEC Group. A release on Tuesday, April 4 said the Chinese businessman had made previous donations of motorbikes to the Service.

There has been public pressure on the police to return the donation as some consider it as going to influence the law enforcers in stopping illegal mining, which is mostly done by Chinese. The release signed by Director of Public Affairs Cephas Arthur said the donation by Mr Hong was in response to a request made by PIPS to corporate organizations and philanthropists to support the project.

It emphasized that Mr Hong’s past donations “have not influenced us in any way,” assuring therefore that they will discharge their duties according to law. “The Police administration wishes to assure the public that the Police will continue to enforce the law without any let or hindrance, fear or favour.”
