A 45-year-old scrap agent working with Ferro Fabrics, a steel manufacturing company in the Tema Heavy Industrial Area, was shot in the head by suspected armed robbers yesterday in traffic near the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR).
The deceased, identified as Wahab Danjuma Mohammed, a resident of Ashaiman, together with his brother, Issahaku Suraj, were said to have withdrawn unspecified amount of money from Zenith Bank at the Heavy Industrial Area when the armed robbers, reportedly using an unregistered motorbike, attacked them.
His corpse has since been deposited at the Tema General Hospital pending autopsy.
The deceased’s brother, who survived the incident, has also been admitted at the aforementioned health facility and is responding to treatment.
It is believed that the armed robbers trailed the deceased and his brother from the bank after withdrawing the money until they closed in on them in the traffic and attacked them.
According to an eyewitness, “One of the armed robbers jumped from the motorbike and took a bag from the victim after which they fired warning shots and sped off.”
The incident led to a huge traffic jam on the Valco Roundabout to TOR stretch of the road, as commuters stopped to catch a glimpse of the deceased in a pool of blood.
Confirming the incident to DAILY GUIDE, Superintendent Stephen K. Kwakye, Community 1 District Police Commander, explained that his outfit got information concerning the incident at about 2:00 pm.
