“I have no doubt that Ms Justice Sophia Akuffo will be a worthy successor to Chief Justice Wood and uphold jealously the independence of the judiciary “, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said.
Introducing her as his choice for the position of Chief Justice, to take over from Mrs Justice Georgina Theodora Wood at the Flagstaff House Friday afternoon, President Akufo-Addo said he expects discipline, fairness and integrity to be the hallmark of the tenure of new CJ.
In addition, the President said he expects Ms Justice Akuffo to continue with efforts to rebuild the public’s confidence in the Judicial Service.
President Akufo-Addo described Ms Justice Akuffo as one of the leading lights of the court after her appointment by former President Jerry John Rawlings to the Supreme Court.
He said Ms Justice Akuffo’s contribution to the court’s work and the growth of the country’s jurisprudence had been extensive and added she has a rich working experience, which led to her having various appointments on continent.
He added that “she has rich and traditional experience by serving with credit, serving on continental judicial bodies such as the African Court on Human and People’s Right which she ended up as the President of the court.“
