The Assembly member in Denkyira-Obuasi reportedly linked to the murder of Captain Maxwell Mahama is in police custody.
The assembly member, William Baah, reportedly turned himself into police in the Diaso area, near Denkyira-Obuasi, on Wednesday afternoon, and is being transported to the Central Region Police Command. Five persons suspected to have taken part in the killing are also in the Central Regional Police after being picked up on Tuesday.
One of the five suspects sustained a gunshot wound during the lynching that resulted in the Army officer’s death, and is receiving treatment. Captain Mahama was armed at the time, and fired off at least a shot during a struggle before being killed by his attackers on Monday morning.
The other four suspects are being held at the Bakaano Police station in Cape Coast. Capt. Mahama was an officer of the 5th Infantry Battalion and was said to have been on his daily jogging routine on Monday when he was lynched. He had been deployed there as part of an anti-illegal mining operation. The residents claimed Captain Mahama was a robber as he was in civilian clothing at the time, and with a gun.
