My degrees are genuine; SSNIT must reinstate me – dismissed IT boss

Dismissed General Manager for Management Information System at SSNIT, Dr. Caleb Afaglo has initiated processes to compel his former employer to reinstate him.

Embattled Dr. Afaglo has subsequently instructed his lawyers to seek legal redress on his behalf for the supposed wrongful dismissal. His counsel Charles Owusu in an exclusive interview with TV3’s Edward Kwabi confirmed that he has received authorization from Dr. Afaglo to drag SSNIT to court. Mr. Owusu insisted his client’s degrees are genuine and could not be the basis for his dismissal.

He said reports about the sacking of his client, came to him as a surprise, noting that “two years ago, the board at the time vetted and verified the same degrees that are being questioned now”. Lawyer Charles Owusu was emphatic about an imminent law suit that would obliged SSNIT to reinstate his client. “We are shocked by this development because we thought EOCO was still investigating the matter, so why would the board do this?” he quizzed. The SSNIT board after a crunch meeting on Wednesday dismissed Dr. Caleb Afaglo following allegations that his degrees were fake.

“Evidence made available to the Trust indicates that the University degrees presented by Dr. Afaglo to secure his employment at the Trust are fake,” SSNIT issued statement to explain the board and management’s decision. Dr. Afaglo had earlier indicated that he had a BSC and MBA from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a Ph.D. from the Kennedy Western University.

However, the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) commissioned an investigation to ascertain the authenticity of his Doctorate degree and his tenure in previous organizations, with the suspicion that he was unqualified for the role he occupied at the state pension organization. Dr. Afaglo, who was appointed in October 2015 and confirmed in July 2016, was interdicted on July 13, 2017, pending the outcome of the EOCO investigation. Prior to his appointment at SSNIT, Dr Afaglo had worked as IT consultant for the Trust, National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA), Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), and at MTN Ghana and Action Chapel International as the Data Services Supervising Engineer. He had also served as the head of IT department at SIMNET GHANA and Dominion University. He was also a consultant at GLICO Insurance.
