A quack doctor working at the Covenant Clinic at Madina in the Greater Accra region has been arrested for the second time by the police for practising as medical doctor without license.
His medical facility was closed down by the council after his arrest in May 2016. Though he is facing prosecution, Adams has not been showing up in court as was required, and decided to reopen and operate from his clinic at the blindside of the council and the police. To make case for not going to court regularly, the quack doctor “submitted an excuse duty that he was not well to attend court proceedings”, Registrar of the Council, Dr. Eli Kwasi Atikpui told TV3 on Wednesday.
He said a bench warrant was once issued by the court for his arrest. Explaining what led to his arrest, Dr. Atikpui said the council decided to revisit institutions which were closed down and they bumped into him, dressed as a medical doctor in his consulting room. There were some patients who had obviously come there to seek medical care, and the records book there shows that the facility is highly patronized.
The two certificates hanging in the consulting room show that his facility has been passed by the Environmental Health and Sanitation Department. However, the wards were in poor shape and the pharmacy too was messy as well as the laboratory. He was reported to the police in Madina and he was re-arrested. He is currently in the custody of the regional CID headquarters. Aremeyaw Adams has been operating for the past 20 years as a medical doctor.
A collaborative work between the Ghana Medical and Dental Council and the Ghana Police Service has so far led to the arrest of 19 fake doctors who have been practising without medical certificates from January 2016.
