Kwahu East: Six Killed After Minister Calls For Anger Against Fulanis

At least six people have died in a feud between Fulani herdsmen and residents in some farming communities in the Kwahu East District of the Eastern region.

The clashes occurred after residents of the communities retaliated at the killing of three indigenes by the herdsmen by also killing three of the Fulanis.

The attacks come on the back of recent comments by MP for the area and minister of state in charge of national security Bryan Acheampong that the indigenes haven’t shown enough anger at the consistent attacks on them by the nomads.

The minister wondered why the over 60,000 indigenes in the area would allow themselves to be intimidated by a handful of the herdsmen.

“The people are not angry enough. And there so much a Member of Parliament can do. I need the support of the people, the people must be angry, the people themselves must be angry because we cannot sit down for these things to continue to happen all the time. And all the time we bring firefighting measures. The BNI is complaining of vehicles, the Police is complaining. But when the people are not angry enough, it creates a problem.

“The Fulanis in this community are probably about 300 people; terrorising 60,000 people, it cannot be. The people must be angry. And that must happen before any other thing, we should stop them,” Mr. Acheampong fumed at a meeting with some stakeholders in the area.
