Book on ‘Qualitative study on delivery care services’ to be launched on December 2

Famous blogger and CEO of madeintaadi.blogspot.com Obed Bangdome Ofori (aka Taadi Mayor) is set to launch his first book on Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health at Paragon Terrace in Takoradi on Saturday, December 2, 2017 from 5-7pm.

The event which is being organized under the theme “Support the Mothers and Babies to Survive” will have the Western Regional Public Health Nurse as a Guest Speaker.

Asked about what motivated him to write the book, the Taadi Mayor said “After witnessing a delivery conducted by a Traditional Birth Attendant (TBA) in my hometown in 2013, I decided to find out why some women in the locality preferred the services of a TBA despite the availability of trained midwives”

According to him approximately 800 women die every day across the globe as result of avoidable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth.

“In Ghana almost 60 of women die each week from causes related to pregnancy and birth”, he added.

Obed also revealed that in the year 2016, 92 maternal deaths were recorded in the western region, which according to him translates that “for every 100,000 deliveries done in the region, 148 women will end up dead”. Meanwhile 42% of deliveries in the region are conducted by traditional birth attendants.

All hope is not lost since according to a recent review, around 20-30% of these mortalities could be reduced by implementing skilled birth care services.

The event will be a forum to discuss maternal, neonatal and child health issues with emphasis on how to achieve 80% skilled delivery coverage target set by the region.

Aside blogging, Obed Ofori Bangdome is an Entrepreneur, Author and Senior Technical Officer at the Western Regional Public Health Division. He is a product of College of Health and Well-being and holds a Diploma certificate in Disease Control.

The event is free to the general public and it is in partnership with Paragon 99.9 fm and Pilolo Ghana.
