Another student has died under mysterious circumstances at the Kumasi Academy Senior High School (KUMACA) – bringing to three, the number of students who have died in the school within just 72 hours.
Two of the students – both males in the first-year – passed on at different occasions on Thursday, having been rushed to the hospital over high temperature.
The third student died Friday evening after he had reportedly left the school compound for the house to seek medical treatment.
He was also said to be having high temperature.
The deaths were recorded during the celebration of the school’s 60th anniversary, which was attended by President Akufo-Addo and some old students.
Authorities at the school have not issued any official statement about the situation in the mixed school.
Cassandra Twum-Ampofo, the Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ghana Education Service (GES), disclosed the sad news to DAILY GUIDE during an interview yesterday.
She said everything was going on normally until the first student visited the school’s sickbay and complained of high temperature Wednesday evening, adding that he was quickly rushed to the hospital, but he died.
According to Ms Twum-Ampofo, the first death occurred Thursday dawn and on that same day, around 8pm, another student also complained of high temperature and passed away after being rushed to the hospital.
The PRO announced that the latest death occurred on Friday.
She said KUMACA students, who are also having high temperature and currently responding to treatment at the various hospitals in the city, had increased from five to 10.
Ms Twum Ampofo expressed sadness about the mysterious deaths, but gave the assurance that the GES and KUMACA authorities were working assiduously to implement policies to halt the deaths.
KUMACA, situated in the Asokore-Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region, reportedly experienced similar strange student deaths earlier this year.
The school celebrated its 60th anniversary last Saturday.
