Prez. Akufo-Addo lays job foundation

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has indicated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government has put in place proper economic structures that will enhance job creation to address the present unemployment challenges in the country.

According to him, that had been achieved through assiduous work by his government within one year in spite of the fact that it inherited an ailing economy that offered little hope to Ghanaians.

Addressing NPP delegates at an extraordinary conference in Kumasi yesterday, President Akufo-Addo acknowledged that the government had had challenges in laying the foundation for economic takeoff, with much anxiety over jobs by the youth, including those in his party.

“It has not been easy because we inherited a bankrupt economy but because of the ingenuity of the people I’m working with, we’ve been able to lay a good foundation,” the president pointed out.

He called on the delegates to remain united and confident, since “we’re on the right path and soon it will be obvious to everybody. Our race is not a sprint, it is a cross-country; it is a marathon race and we are going to win at the end, not just at the beginning.”

President Akufo-Addo said the NPP government, under his leadership, had undertaken many developmental projects and fulfilled some of the electoral promises made during the electioneering campaign.

This, he indicated, had been done within one year into his administration, and added that there were plans to ensure that the projects are increased in the coming year.

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, gave an assurance that the party would annex every parliamentary seat in the region in the next elections.

He stated, “This is the legacy I would like to leave behind before I exit from office as regional chairman of the ‘elephant’ family.”

The Ashanti Region has the highest number of parliamentary seats – 47 – and the NPP currently has 44, with three of them in the hands of the major opposition party – the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
