PHOTOS: Westline Entertainment launches 2018 Western Music Awards

Organizers of Western Music Awards, Westline Entertainment today at a colourful ceremony launched the 2018 Western Music Awards (WMA).

The second edition of the awards which will come off 28th April, 2018 at the plush Best Western Awards will reward Artistes who hail from the Western Region. “Anyone who is an Artiste from the Western Region automatically qualifies for the awards” Nana Kwesi Coomson, Public Relations Officer of the WMA told pressmen today.

This year’s awards has 23 categories grouped into two; the general and the industry/technical categories. The general categories include: Artiste(s) of the Year, Hiplife Artiste(s) of the Year, Hip Hop Artiste(s) of the Year, Highlife Artiste(s) of the Year, Reggae/Dancehall Artiste(s) of the Year, Gospel Artiste(s) of the Year, New Artiste of the Year, Best Collaboration of the year, Hiplife Song of the Year, Highlife song of the Year, Hip Hop Song of the Year, Gospel Song of the year, Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year, Best Group of the Year, Best Rapper of the Year, Most popular Ghanaian Song of the Year, Most Popular Regional Song of the Year,

Technical/Industry Categories include: Best Female Artiste of the Year, Music Video of the Year, Music Producer of the Year, Lifetime Achievement Award, Best Radio DJ of the Year and Best Entertainment Show of the Year.

The pressmen who were present at the launch offered suggestions and critiques to make this year’s edition better. The event was also used to open nomination for this year’s awards. “The year under review is 2017. Our 2017 calendar year starts from 1st January 2017 to 1st February, 2018. As last year’s edition did not have a specific year under review, it allowed Artistes to present some of their old works and new ones too. As this year’s has a specific year under review, any song which was submitted in last year’s awards even if it falls under this year’s calendar year is automatically disqualified” Mr. Coomson told the pressmen.

The tagline for this year’s awards is ‘For the love of the region.’
