Security concerns dominate Minority’s expectations of Prez. Akufo-Addo’s 2nd SONA

Some members of the Minority in Parliament want President Nana Addo Dankwa AKufo-Addo to come clear on the state of security in Ghana.

“I am expecting that the president will address the state of security in the country,” said the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South Constituency, Alfred Oko Vanderpuije.

He said although entrepreneurship has been on the ascendancy in recent times, many cannot open their businesses for 12 hours in a day because of the worsening security situation.

Another member, Richard Quashigah, who represents Keta Constituency, said last year in his state-of-the-nation address, President Akufo-Addo described the unemployment situation as a time bomb for the country.

“Has he been able to clear that time bomb?” he wondered.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) MPs were sharing their expectations on TV3 ahead of this year’s address on Thursday.

It will be the second for President Akufo-Addo since assuming the reins of the presidency.

The first address – delivered in Tuesday, February 21, 2017 – was dominated by projects yet to be undertaken as the government was barely two months in office.

“In the first year, we tried to stabilise the economy,” said Bantama MP Daniel Okyem Aboagye on Wednesday.

“In the second year, we had the Adwuma budget.”

His expectations were surprisingly low and he made that clear.

“I don’t expect any significant difference. We know [most of the things] already.”
