John Mahama to make 2020 ambitions known ‘very, very soon’

Former President John Dramani Mahama says the time seems right for him to make his political future known to members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), in particular, and Ghanaians as a whole.

He says he has gone round the country and has taken in a common message many well-meaning party members have put to him.

“And sooner rather than later. I think very, very soon, I will make my political future very very clear,” the two-time leader of the NDC told party supporters at the Upper East Region edition of the Unity Walk on Saturday.

The country’s biggest opposition party is most likely to elect its flagbearer in November.

Already, some leading members like Ekwow Spio-Garbrah and Professor Joshua Alabi have served notice they will contest the presidential primaries.

Alban Bagbin [Middle] also declared intention to contest the NDC flagbearership

But Mr Mahama, who was president of Ghana from 2012 to 2017, has also another chance to contest as he served only one full term in office.

His decision is said to hold a huge influence within the party.

“As I said before, I did not want my decision whether to run or not to run to affect the reorganization of the party,” he admitted.

“Now that we have finished the branch reorganization of the party and I can see that the reorganization of the party is going on track then probably the time is arriving when I can make a decision so that the party can be very focused on how it is moving forward towards 2020.”
