Ignore “fake” Ghana Card of some minority MPs; none is registered – NIA

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has denied secretly registering and issuing some minority members of parliament with Ghana Cards, which they boycotted.

According to the Authority, photocopies of some supposed Ghana Card bearing purported details of some minority MPs which have gone viral on social media “are fake and should be disregarded”

Photos of the supposed Ghana Cards with pictures and bio-data of some minority MPs including Muntaka Mubarak, Kwabena Mintah Akandow, James Agalga and Isaac Adongo have been circulating on social media in the last few days.

It is unclear the motive behind the circulation of the ‘fake’ Ghana Card but believed to suggest the minority MPs who boycotted the registration exercise last week, secretary went to register for same.

A statement issued by the NIA Sunday however, denied ever registering any minority member of parliament for the Ghana Card.

According to the NIA, it is regrettable that such pictures were circulating on social media, stating, “NIA has no evidence of having registered any Minority MP” and “has not issued a Ghana Card to any Minority MP”.

It has no knowledge whatsoever about the ‘fake’ Ghana card supposedly issued to some minority MPs who allegedly registered for it secretly.

“Neither the acting Executive Secretary nor any NIA authorised Registration Official has anything to do with the creation and circulation of the said pictures which can only be photoshoped,” it stated. The purported Personal Identification Numbers on the said cards, according to the NIA, fall completely outside the unique ?numbering system and scope of its system.

“The pictures on the cards also don’t conform to NIA picture requirements,” it added, and assured the public of its commitment to protecting all personal data entrusted to it.

It added, “Effectively ensuring all-round compliance with data ?protection laws and policies will remain a core concern of NIA”
