21-year-old woman robber nabbed

77934432.295Georgina Tam, a 21-year-old woman believed to be a member of a car-snatching syndicate operating in the Ashanti Region, is in the grip of the Abuakwa Police.

The young woman was arrested alongside her male counterpart, Sirakus Boo, 23, while attempting to snatch a Kia Pride taxi registered AS 6674-09 from its driver at Abuakwa, near Kumasi.

The police said Georgina and Sirakus were part of the robbery gang with the other members being Peter and Darious, who are currently at large.

ASP Yusif Mohammed Tanko, PRO of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, told newsmen the suspects were arrested on Sunday, July 15, 2013, around 12 midnight at a police checkpoint.

He explained that while the Kia Pride cabbie, who shuttled between Kumasi Pampaso and Abuakwa was about his normal business, Georgina and her accomplices accosted him under the pretext of engaging his services.

Without suspecting any foul play, the cabbie took them in his car, and on reaching a section of the road between Tanoso and Abuakwa, the suspects ordered the taxi driver to stop at an obscure place.

ASP Tanko said the driver suspected them to be people of questionable character. He, therefore, refused to stop and rather drove near to a police checkpoint near Abuakwa CMB.

The police PRO narrated that this degenerated into a scuffle between the suspects and the driver during which they threatened to harm him.

Mr. Tanko said the police officers at the checkpoint were attracted to the scene, and after hearing the story of the driver, decided to conduct a search on the suspects.

According to the police spokesman, the law enforcement officers discovered a locally made pistol, four live cartridges, two sharp knives, a mobile phone, a voter ID card and other personal effects.

He explained that all the items were contained in Georgina’s handbag which was in the possession of suspect Sirakus Boo at the time of the search.

ASP Tanko stated further that the other two accomplices, Peter and Darious, upon seeing the police officers, took to their heels.

He disclosed that Georgina Tam and Siraku were subsequently arrested and brought to the Regional CID for investigation.
