JJ Rawlings Registers for the Ghana Card

Founder of NDC, JJ Rawlings has had his copy of the Ghana Card, despite his party the National Democratic Congress’ position to boycott the national exercise.
Rawlings, who is the founder of the largest opposition NDC, registered for the card on Tuesday, the National Identification Authority (NIA) announced.

Former president John Kufuor has also registered for the Ghana Card.

The Minority in Parliament has taken a stance not to register for the national ID card until voter’s ID cards are allowed as a reference source for the registration. Currently, one needs a birth certificate or a passport as proof of citizenship to register for the Ghana Card.

“We had stakeholder engagements with President Rawlings and President Kufuor and today [Tuesday] we’ve had the privilege of registering the two gallant men. We are in the process of registering Ghanaians and these two are very eminent Ghanaians.

“We are registering other Ghanaians today. We are at the premises of the audit service, judicial service, immigration, prisons fire service and several other places. We are determined to stay focused and to continue with discharging our statutory mandate,” the Chief Executive Officer of the NIA, Prof. Ken Attafuah told Citi FM.

The NIA has already covered the presidency.
