Ghana Premier League side Ashantigold have suspended head coach CK Akonnor for what the club describes as dereliction of duty.
Akonnor reportedly failed to turn up for training on Thursday and Friday when the miners resumed training but was spotted on GTV doing punditry for the FIFA World Cup on Saturday.
His assistants have since been asked to take over the team on the interim.
In a query letter handed to the former Hearts of Oak trainer and signed by Ashgold Chief Executive Frederick Acheampong, the club asked Akonnor to explain his absence while he was also asked to step aside immediately.
Citi Sports can confirm that Akonnor has since responded to the query.
Meanwhile, Akonnor has referred the matter to his lawyers and insists his absence on the two days were due to family engagements which were duly communicated to the club.
