Nduom, Brew Butler Stop by Government From FIFA Meeting

Business magnate Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, former Chairman of the Ghana Football Association Samuel Brew-Butler and Alex Asante have been stopped by the government from traveling to meet FIFA over the future of Ghana Football.

According to sources, the move was to reemphasize government’s efforts at dissolving the football administration following the investigative work by Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

Nduom and Brew-Butler were to represent clubs in Ghana at the Zurich meeting between some government officials and FIFA over the future of football in Ghana while Asante represented the interest of the Under-20 women football but the government feels their inclusion undermines the position of the state regarding the ongoing action over the scandal at the GFA.

The three were handpicked by FIFA to be part of the meeting after a meeting with government officials in Ghana.

In a statement signed by Solomon Mudege, Senior Development Manager CAF & Caribbean Region Subdivision, FIFA said: “We understand that your participation in the meeting would be against the relevant Ghanaian laws and you might personally face certain sanctions. As such, we advise you not to travel to Zurich.

“A letter has been sent to the Ghanaian government (as attached) confirming that only FIFA and the Ghanaian government will participate in the meetings in Zurich. A new date of Friday 29 June 2018 has been set for the meeting”.

The development means that FIFA will now only meet officials of the government led by Sports Minister Isaac Isiamah Friday, June 29,2018.

Other officials who will attend the meeting include Deputy Attorney General, Godfred Dame, Deputy Chief of Staff, Samuel Jinapor and Cynthia Morrison, Member of Parliament for Agona West.
