Jay-Z drops hyphen from his name: wants to be known as Jay Z

PANews+BT_N0008751374230529318A_I1The chart-topping Holy Grail rapper, whose real name is Shawn Carter, informed Billboard editor Joe Levy of the change in his moniker through his record label Roc Nation, reported Billboard.

Joe then tweeted: “Breaking: Jay Z has dropped the hyphen from his name, according to his label. I am not kidding. (Wish I was.) Copy editors: take note.”

When one of his followers said that the change happened a few years back, the editor said: “Didn’t take, though. The hyphen is strong.”

Meanwhile, Jay-Z – who closed the Wireless festival in London withJustin Timberlake – visited Salisbury Cathedral to see the original Magna Carta, which inspired his latest album Magna Carta… Holy Grail.

The hip-hop superstar spent an hour in the church to see one of only four surviving original copies of the 1215 proclamation, and met the Dean Reverend June Osborne, who described him as “a delightful guest”.

The 750-year-old cathedral is displaying the artwork for Jay-Z’s album alongside its copy of the original 800-year-old parchment copy of the Magna Carta.
