Obengfo Tells Court – I’m Still Not Fit; Ignore Doctor’s Report

Embattled Chief Executive Officer of the Obengo Medical Center, Dr. Dominic Obeng-Andoh, says he is very ill and practically unable to stand trial at the Circuit Court for the offenses of practicing medicine without a license and operating an unlicensed medical facility.

Addressing the Court presided over by Judge Jane Harriet Ayele Quaye, Dr. Obeng-Andoh said the Court should ignore the report of doctors at the Police Hospital claiming that he is fit to stand trial.

He told the Court that he can feel pains within his bones and that he is unwell and unable to stand trial. Police prosecutors, subsequently prayed the Court for a long adjournment to allow the suspect to fully recover from his ill health before he is made to stand trial.

The lawyer for the accused, Nana Kofi Bekoe, was not in Court.

The presiding judge who sits at the Circuit Court 10 indicated that she was handling the case for her colleague judge who sits at Circuit Court 11 as the substantive judge assigned to the case is currently on leave.

As a result, she is compelled to give a long adjournment by which time the assigned judge would have resumed to take over the case. She proceeded to adjourn the hearing of the case to the 3rd of August, 2018.

Dr. Dominic Obengfo-Andoh is in Police custody for the murder of the former Deputy Chief Executive Officer for the National Entrepreneurship Innovation Programme (NEIP), Stacy Offei Darko, at his medical facility.

He has been charged with murder and he is currently facing committal proceedings at the District Court ahead of his murder trial at the High Court.

He has been granted bail in the case before the Circuit Court where he is facing additional criminal charges for practicing medicine without a license and operating a medical facility without a license.

However, by virtue of the murder charges, he has remained in Police custody.
