GETFund – We’re expecting a loan to pay contractors by September

The GETFund Administrator, Richard Boadu, has said money is being sourced to pay contractors owed by the Fund.

“We have gone in for a loan that is about 500 million dollars, the majority of the contractors know what we are doing and when this money hits the account, it is not just going to pay, but to complete all other projects. We are expecting the money to hit our account by September,” he said.

This was after a group of angry contractors complained about their two years arrears, and gave the GETFund a two-week ultimatum to settle the debts.

The contractors have since begun processes to send the matter to court and are set to demonstrate on August 1, 2018.

According to the GETFund Administrator, his outfit is set to receive a loan of 500 million dollars in September to address the challenges.

He said he was disappointed about the intended demonstration especially when the contractors are award of GETFUND’s attempt to pay them.

“After making things clear to them and they still want to demonstrate, I don’t think they have a case,” he said.

The Association of Conscientious Public Sector Contractors have said they have not been paid by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) for work done in schools since 2016, are set to embark on a demonstration on the 1st of August.

“We have gotten a police permit and police have even gone there to inform them that we intend having a demonstration at the forefront of GETFund offices,” the Secretary of the group, Samuel Ofori Kumah said.

He also said the contractors were considering legal action.

“We are getting our lawyers to write to GETFund to let them know we intend going to court if they don’t commence payment to our contractors.”
