The Kwahu Mpraeso Police in the Eastern region has arrested two highway robbers, Ibrahim Sambo, 31, and Suleman Sambo, while they were robbing passengers at Kwahu Tafo to Pitiku.
The two suspects are all Fulani herdsmen.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Police Command, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, on July 28, 2018 at about 10.30 am, the Kwahu Mpraeso Police patrol team had a tip-off that armed robbers have blocked a section of the Kwahu Tafo -Kwahu Pitiku road and were robbing drivers and passengers plying that section of the road.
He said the Police swiftly rushed to the scene and met three Fulani men armed with single barrel short guns but the armed robbers fled into the bush on seeing the Police.
They were given a hot chase by the patrol team which led to Ibrahim Sambo’s arrest.
Police retrieved one single barrel short gun from him.
Later on the Police with the help of some vigilante residents managed to arrest one of the two suspects who fled into the bush, Suleman Sambo, 21.
He said further intelligence is being gathered to enable the arrest of the last accomplice.
Meanwhile, victims of the robbery incident are being urged to report the case at the Police station to aid in the prosecution of the suspect.
Residents and commuters in the Mpraeso area have for some time now been complaining about highway robbery cases hence happy with the arrest made by the Police with calls for intensified Patrol on the roads.
