TTU registrar cautions NSS personnel: ‘Don’t abort pregnancies’

The Registrar of Takoradi Technical University, Sylvia Oppong-Mensah, has called on graduates to refrain from citing economic pressure as an excuse for pregnancy termination.

Speaking at a send-off ceremony for outgoing national service personnel of the institution, Mrs. Oppong-Mensah, urged them to accept responsibility for their actions and serve as good ambassadors of the university to the outside world.

She encouraged young people to master self-discipline to enable them to make positive impacts in spite of economic challenges.

“Obviously, I will be extremely disappointed if my child leaves for national service and brings pregnancy home, but that will not stop me from assisting with the necessary antenatal care needed for safe delivery.”

She called on young graduates to work diligently and save part of their earnings for the future.

Rev. Michael Obeng of the Career Development Office emphasized the essence of goal setting and advised young people to focus on developing their talents and skills to achieve their aims.

Mrs. Sylvia Oppong-Mensah, first female Registrar of the Takoradi Polytechnic, was inducted into office in 2012.

Prior to her appointment as Registrar, she had been working with the Polytechnic for eight years, beginning her career as Assistant Registrar.
