I’m No Miracle Worker, Amuneke Tells Tanzania Fans

FIFA  legend Emmanuel Amuneke has told Tanzania fans not to expect miracles from him.

The former Sporting Lisbon and Barcelona winger, who helped  Nigeria win the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations  after conjuring a brace in the Super Eagles’ 2-1 defeat of Zambia’s Chipolopolo  in the final at Stade El Menzah, Tunis,  was  named  manager of Tanzania  after signing a two-year contract on Monday.

And TFF president Wallace Karia has assured the former Al Khartoum coach of the federation’s support, insisting they had picked the right man for the job.

“He has established himself and he has been successful both as a player and coach,” Karia said during Amuneke’s unveiling.

“We will give him all the support he needs to ensure he accomplishes his mission and our focus lies on the 2019 African Cup of Nations.”

Former Zamalek star Amuneke admits he faces a huge task to transform Taifa Stars’ fortunes, but has called  for patience from fans.

“I know Tanzania very well, its football, but I won’t promise you to bring wonders as I believe with good cooperation, together we can move it to the next level,”  the Atlanta ’96 Olympic Games gold medallist, who will also manage  the national  U-15, U-17 and  U-20  teams,  was quoted by Daily News as saying on Tuesday.

He told the News Agency of Nigeria that he was excited to manage the East African country.

The former Flying Eagles coach said,  “I am grateful to the Tanzanian people. I’m also grateful to the President and General Secretary of the TFF for giving me the opportunity to coach their teams.

“We are happy that the ideas that they have is the same with what I have in mind. Hopefully and collectively, we will be able to see how Tanzanian football can grow and develop.’’
